Googling I read there might be ways to stop External Drives from going to sleep using Terminal commands. I set the preferences in ENERGY SAVER: 'Never go to sleep', Prevent Computer from sleeping automatically (etc.) and everything else is unchecked. Strangely enough they appear on DiskWarrior which tells me they are not mounted, but manages to rebuilt the directory and the drive will show up again, to vanish again after various minutes or hour at times.Įach drive tested on separate single enclosure seems fine both on DiskWarrior and TechTools.Įven if they are working for copying files and so on, they suddenly vanish from Finder and Terminal doesn't show them up.

When this happens they are invisible both in the Terminal app (with the diskutil list) or the DiskUtiities. They vanish from the Finder window with no reason even if they are working. When I am successful, randomly, some drives appear in the finder, in different random order, occasionally 2, 3 or 1, rarely all four of them. As the result varies I don't think it matters. Tried different USB3 cables, Switching it on before my MACBOOKPRO, or viceversa. My 4 hard drives in my ICYBOX external enclosure used for single drives NOT RAID randomly don't appear on finder.
